Long Horns

Across CR-446 from the Salty Cemetery was the most spectacular set of horns I have seen on a bull. The animal is quite tall and the rack must have been 18" around as they came from his head. I thought this was worth a picture.

I got as close as prudent but good sense kept me a fair distance from this impressive beast.

Rounding the corner on to CR-446A, I found the cows and calves grazing on a hillside. Even the cows have impressive racks.

In the books of Louis L'Amour, I have read descriptions of the Texas Longhorn cattle that made up the trail drives to Kansas. These live up to the description!

The only problem is they are not Texas Longhorn cattle but their African cousins, Watussi
.

Longhorns

You might also find this small heard while traveling south from Cameron on FM-1600. In this case, they are Texas Longhorn cattle. You can tell the difference by the shape of the horns as well as the diameter.

Who do you think has the largest set of horns in Milam County? If you have an animal with larger horns than these, send me e-mail!
