In August of 1999, I had the pleasure of
visiting the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library on Ackerman Street,
Rockdale, Texas. The librarians were very helpful (hopefully my
library card is still good) in assisting me with locating the cemetery.
It wasn't easy finding and we almost past it up on the highway.
The owners of the trailer park near the small cemetery were very
helpful and understanding also.
I never knew my great grandfather and grandmother, but my great aunt Maria
I remember. (Going to the outhouse at night was a scary experience for a
little girl.) My visit to Rockdale was an emotional roller coaster.
The memories my mother shared will never be forgotten. It was
exciting to tell her nothing's changed, it was exactly as she remembered.
My mother was able to provide me with memories of her childhood in
Rockdale, which included the feed store owned by the McVoy's. I believe
the son was running the store when we visited in 1999.
While in Rockdale we also ate at "No
Teeth Bar-B-Que" on Cameron Avenue.
