Introduction
Jim Bowman has been
developing his expressions in glass for over 22 years. He received a
Master of Fine Arts degree in Glass from California College of Arts
& Crafts in 1988 and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting
from Kansas City Art Institute in 1976. He currently works in
Dallas, Texas, with his wife Mary Lynn Devereux and three assistants
Laura Strother, Bob Millar, and Lawrence Vinyard.
Bowman has developed his artistic vision in many aspects of glass
working, including architectural leaded glass, etched glass,
kiln-worked glass, glass blowing and casting, and glass and mixed
media sculpture. He has done many commissioned projects for public
spaces, corporate environments, and residential installations, and
also produced a large body of autonomous works in mixed media
sculpture and blown glass vessels.
In 1995, Bowman created, with several partners, Hickory Street Hot
Glass, in the Deep Ellum / Fair Park area of Dallas. In summer of
2001, Hickory Street Hot Glass was dissolved, and Jim Bowman, with
his wife, Mary Lynn, established Bowman Glass Studio in the
Cedars area of South Dallas, Dallas' newest up and coming downtown
arts district.
